Dr Ramani Ayer, a business leader and prominent member of the Indo-American community, spoke at several events during the New Paradigm Tour of North America this year.

Dr Ayer, a long-term practitioner of Transcendental Meditation, spoke to a large, mostly Indo-American audience in Chicago about the lifelong work of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to establish permanent peace in the world.

He focused mainly on the Global Peace Initiative, a plan to establish 9,000 Maharishi Vedic Pandits—peace-creating experts—in the geographic centre of India in order to create lasting peace worldwide.

Earlier in the evening at the event, Dr John Hagelin, renowned quantum physicist, had explained the mechanics behind Maharishi's programme to use 'Yoga and Yagya'* to create waves of coherence in the environment, a phenomenon named the Maharishi Effect by scientists in honour of Maharishi, who first predicted it in the early 1960s.

Dr Ayer said, 'As Dr Hagelin pointed out, the Maharishi Effect has an ''N-squared'' value, which means the square root of 1% of the world's population' practising Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques 'in one concentrated location—performing Yoga and Yagya—can truly transform the adverse trends that we face in the world.'

At the time Dr Ayer visited the Global Capital of World Peace at the centre, or Brahmasthan, of India, the group of Vedic Pandits in residence there had grown to about 2,000.

'What we have done is acquire close to 1,770 acres of land at the geographic centre of India . . . ,' Dr Ayer said. 'Today we can accommodate 2,000 Pandits. Our desire is to get to 3,500 first, which would actually transform the trends in India . . . because that is the square root of 1% of India's population.'

He added, 'Today these Pandits perform Yoga and Yagya every day.'

To maintain the Maharishi Vedic Pandits in India, to increase their numbers to 9,000, and to ensure that 9,000 are in the Brahmasthan on a permanent basis, requires less than the cost of one F18 fighter jet, Dr Ayer pointed out.

That is the power of the eternal Vedic wisdom, he concluded. 'To be able to achieve [world peace] is a glorious tradition that Maharishi has advanced.'

* Yoga refers to the Pandits' daily group practice of Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques, including Yogic Flying. Maharishi Yagyas are precise Vedic performances conducted by Vedic Pandits, to create specific life-supporting influences for individuals and nations from the field of pure consciousness, the Unified Field of total natural law.
