David Lynch, celebrated film-maker and leading proponent of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's peace-creating technologies, visited Israel last week as part of a multi-nation tour. Dr Lynch had recently presented Maharishi's formula for invincibility to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and received France's top award, the Legion of Honour. His trip to Israel included meetings with students, film-makers, top educators, and government ministers in order to present his education initiative to solve problems in schools and promote peace.

In a meeting with Israel's President Shimon Peres, Dr Lynch explained the scientific basis for creating peace and invincibility for the nation through coherence-creating groups practising the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programme. Dr Lynch told the President that through their collective practice, these groups enliven the most powerful and fundamental level of Natural Law—the Unified Field—as discovered by quantum physics, bringing the nourishing and harmonizing qualities of the Unified Field to all areas of individual and national life. Establishing such groups in Israel was discussed, and the President referred Dr Lynch to the Peres Centre for Peace, a non-governmental organization working to build an infrastructure of peace and reconciliation for the people of the Middle East. President Peres, Nobel Peace Laureate (1966), and former Prime Minister of Israel, is recognized globally for his great contribution towards creating peace for his nation and surrounding countries. He appreciated the aspirations of David Lynch to bring peace and invincibility to the world.

A lively international Press Conference followed the meeting, with more than 70 representatives from the press, TV, and radio. Dr Lynch answered questions about his work in film, giving special emphasis to the message he had come to present to the Israeli people about the importance of establishing peace-creating groups. He presented scientific research on the TM and TM-Sidhi Programme which demonstrates the benefits of teaching TM in schools.

David Lynch was then a special guest at a dinner where he met with many distinguished leaders of Jerusalem society, including the President of the Jerusalem Foundation. This organization was founded by the Mayor of Jerusalem in 1965, with the laudable goal of striving for an ideal city and creating an exemplary society. Among many other notable personalities who met Dr Lynch, was famous Israeli author, David Grossman, the New York Times chief correspondent in Israel, and the director of the Peres Centre for Peace.

Dr Lynch also met more than 600 students from various schools gathered at the Jerusalem Cinematheque, which houses the Israel Film Archive and serves as a resource centre dedicated to the promotion of cinema. An extremely lively interaction ensued, with students from the 12 Israeli film schools cheering Dr Lynch and applauding him as a leading figure in the film industry. After a ninety-minute meeting, the group vacated the hall so that a second group of 500 could meet with Dr Lynch. Once again, questions and answers centred on Transcendental Meditation, creativity, and film-making.

On the second day of the tour, David Lynch met with more than 250 graduates and teachers of the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem. Although the meeting was organized as a master-class, many questions arose about the Transcendental Meditation Technique and its benefits for students in enlivening creativity and energy. The Sam Spiegel Film and Television School was founded by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 1989, and has become Israel's leading school of film and television, achieving international acclaim and recognition.

Dr Lynch then drove on to the beautiful city of Haifa in the north of the country, where he hosted a public meeting attended by over 600 people. Questions focussed on Transcendental Meditation and the need for creating groups of Yogic Flyers to bring invincibility and peace to Israel. Foremost in the minds of the audience was how and where they could learn the technique. Dr Alex Kutai, National Leader and Founder of Invincibility for Israel, provided contact information, resulting in numerous enquires to the national office of the Global Country of World Peace in Tel Aviv. Callers were directed to introductory lectures on TM around the country.
