Holland celebrates forty-year anniversary of Maharishi's first visit

A joyous celebration was held on 1 September to commemorate the first visit of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace, to The Netherlands forty years ago. An audience of more than two hundred enjoyed the festivities, including 39 people who had recently learned Yogic Flying, and many of the earliest leaders of Maharishi's Movement for The Netherlands.

The Ideal Village of Lelystad in Flevoland hosted the event. Lelystad Ideal Village, which is 45 minutes from Amsterdam, was founded in 1985 and has been a lively centre of Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Programmes for The Netherlands. Video and photographic presentations portrayed Maharishi's first visit and the forty-year progression of his activities which have brought invincibility to The Netherlands.

To commemorate the anniversary, a beautiful map consisting of 1008 roses and displaying all the provinces of The Netherlands was presented to Maharishi, and a message was conveyed by Dr Willem Meijles, Raja of The Netherlands and his wife, Dr Lidewij Meijles, Mother of the Domain. In the message, great appreciation was expressed from all the leaders and Founders of Invincibility:

'The seed of Pure Knowledge, Maharishi ji, you planted in our soil on that first day forty years ago. You have nourished it with your attention and guidance throughout the years and thus we saw the seed sprouting and growing into a little tree. Now it has become a big strong tree, an invincible tree, a tree that is blooming and bearing the fruits of all knowledge for every citizen in Holland for all generations to come. From our country below sea level, we see invincibility rising in every country of our dear world family.'

Holland is just one of the many countries that Maharishi visited in his first five world tours to bring the light of Vedic wisdom to every nation. The history of these events, documenting the expansion of Maharishi's worldwide activities between 1957 and 1964, is beautifully compiled in the book, Thirty Years Around the World—Dawn of the Age of Enlightenment. The introduction explains how these developments have unfolded spontaneously:

'The history of the dawn of the Age of Enlightenment is the history of the sequential unfoldment of pure knowledge and its infinite organizing power from the source of pure knowledge in one individual, His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. From Maharishi's first spontaneous response to the need of time, over 30 years ago, the entire course of his activities in the world mirrors the spontaneous and sequential character of nature's functioning. Every step in the growth of Maharishi's Movement has been the natural expression of the force of evolution, silently reshaping the destiny of the world through the thought and action of one moving in perfect attunement with the infinite intelligence of nature.'
