Mother's Day: Honouring women in need
David Lynch Foundation Women's Initiative Translate This Article
11 May 2014
Shannon, a 27-year-old mother of two and survivor of domestic violence, was struggling mentally, emotionally and financially. She shouldered the problems of her extended family in addition to her own. . . . Unable to sleep and take care of her family, Shannon reached out to the Brooklyn Family Justice Center.
Shannon's case-worker at the Brooklyn Family Justice Center referred her to the Transcendental Meditation (TM) program offered by the David Lynch Foundation's Women's Initiative. TM is a proven stress reduction modality that benefits the mind and body. In just a few weeks after learning TM, Shannon began to feel less anxious, was sleeping better and had more patience with her family. With an increased sense of inner peace Shannon's life started to flourish.
Helping women heal
Shannon's story is not uncommon. . . . Domestic violence victims often suffer depression, anxiety, flashbacks, insomnia, and hyper-vigilance.
In celebration of Mother's Day, the David Lynch Foundation is drawing attention to its initiative to bring relief to women and children who have suffered violence and abuse, through the lifelong gift of Transcendental Meditation.
