Robert Schneider, MD, FACC, Dean of Maharishi College of Perfect Health at Maharishi University of Management, reported highlights from his recent international tour to present the new paradigm of health offered by Maharishi Ayurveda.

Dr Schneider, an eminent cardiologist, is also director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention at MUM, which was established to scientifically investigate time-tested systems of natural health care, particularly the ancient Vedic approach to health known as Maharishi Ayurveda, for the prevention and treatment of major chronic diseases. The Institute has received more than $24 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the US, for research that has primarily focused on cardiovascular health, cancer, and ageing in underserved high-risk populations.

First on the tour was the International Congress on Yoga and Naturopathy held in Bengaluru (Bangalore), India.

The Ministry of Health of the government of India sponsored the conference, and many national and international leaders in Yoga attended. Dr Schneider presented Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's insight that the eight limbs of Yoga, as originally expounded by Patanjali, are all based on Samadhi, the direct experience of transcendental consciousness. Further, Dr Schneider presented measurable benefits of Samadhi in the form of scientific research on the Transcendental Meditation Technique for the physiology, and for individual and collective health.

Second on the tour was the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, where Dr Schneider was invited by this institution of the US government to participate in a select panel of experts on medical aspects of stress.

Here Dr Schneider discussed how stress is caused by loss of Self, and how stress resilience may be increased by reconnecting with the inner intelligence at the basis of mind and body. Medical research has documented reductions in stress-related diseases, including cardiovascular disease, through the Transcendental Meditation Programme.

Norman Rosenthal, MD, also spoke on the benefits of the TM Programme for psychiatric conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and both presentations were warmly received.

Global Good News will continue to report on the recent series of presentations by Dr Robert Schneider on Maharishi Ayurveda.
