Two parallel developments in recent years have led to the historic launch in late August 2010 of the new one-year certificate programme for nurses—Maharishi Ayur-Vedic Medicine Mother-Baby Health Care—through an accredited university in the US.

Women's health experts working with the Global Mother Divine Organization's* Total Knowledge Based Health Foundation were inspired to develop an indepth curriculum in this area, specifically for nurses. This led to the idea to offer the programme online, a valuable aspect for working nurses, who would not have to take time off to participate.

At the same time, Brandman University in California was establishing its new School of Nursing and Health Professions, with the intent to incorporate a natural medicine component. Leaders of the new nursing school invited GMDO to offer the Maharishi Ayur-Veda curriculum as one of the university's many online professional programmes for working adults.

The programme will also be offered this year through Maharishi College of Vedic Medicine in New Mexico—fulfilling the original idea to establish a Maharishi College of Vedic Medicine for women's health.

Delegates from around the world learned more about the new programme and its development during the Global Mother Divine Organization's Third International Congress in MERU, Holland.**

The Raj Rajeshwari of the United States continued to comment about the programme and its great historical significance.

The nurses' curriculum was developed as a central element in the GMDO initiative to create a Maharishi College of Vedic Medicine for women's health, especially to include re-enlivening the Mother and Baby programme, she explained.

'This is another great accomplishment of this year,' she said—that 'the one-year certificate in women's health for nurses will also be offered through the Maharishi College of Vedic Medicine in New Mexico,' which is licensed by that state.

Another important benefit of the certificate programme being offered through Brandman University, the Raj Rajeshwari explained, is that nurses all across the US and Canada can now learn the Transcendental Meditation Programme and receive their Continuing Education Unit, which is required in many states.

It is 'quite a historic event', the Raj Rajeshwari commented, 'to have a fully accredited nursing school now offering a one-year certificate programme in Maharishi Ayur-Veda for women's health, with Transcendental Meditation as a prerequisite' (for any of the individual courses, or for the entire one-year programme), for which students will receive academic credit.

She explained that they are now also looking into 'how to offer the programme through nursing schools in every country', through the GMDO Total Knowledge Based Health Foundation—with the aim of 'creating clinics and universities offering prevention-oriented, natural and side-effect free medicine for every mother and every child in our world family'.

Leaders and members of the Global Mother Divine Organization around the world were also invited 'to think together how we can create branches of Maharishi College of Vedic Medicine for Women's Health in every country . . . . This is our mission, this is our purpose in the Global Mother Divine Organization, to bring this kind of knowledge to the mothers and the children of our world.'

Global Good News will continue to feature more presentations from the GMDO Third International Congress, including achievements of the organization in countries around the world.
