On 25 January 2006 Lincoln Journal Star reported: People practising the Transcendental Meditation Technique for five years or more were found to have a biological age '12 years younger than their chronological age'. The Transcendental Meditation Technique was highlighted in the article on the benefits of meditation. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of health.

The article said that the pace of life in the world today leaves many people feeling exhausted and stressed. Meditation, the article reported, is a means to relieve stress and find 'calm and peace'.

The article described various kinds of meditation and then listed a number of research studies on the benefits of meditation including:

'Psychological benefits:

Increased brainwave coherence, leading to greater creativity, improved moral reasoning, and higher IQ.

Decreased anxiety

Decreased depression

Decreased irritability and moodiness

Improved learning ability and memory

Increased self-actualization

Increased feelings of vitality and rejuvenation

Increased happiness

Increased emotional stability

Physical benefits:

Deep rest, as measured by decreased metabolic rate, lower heart rate, and reduced workload of the heart.

Lowered levels of cortisol and lactate, two chemicals associated with stress.

Reduction of free radicals, unstable oxygen molecules that can cause tissue damage. They are now thought to be a major factor in ageing and in many diseases.

Decreased high blood pressure.

Higher skin resistance, meaning lower stress and anxiety levels.

Drop in cholesterol levels.

Improved flow of air to the lungs, resulting in easier breathing.

Younger biological age. On standard measures of ageing, long-term (five years or more) Transcendental Meditation (TM) practitioners measured 12 years younger than their chronological age.

Higher levels of DHEAS (associated with ageing) in the elderly.'

Global Good News comment: Although only the study on 'younger biological age' was credited to the Transcendental Meditation Technique, virtually all of the research listed above is research that has been conducted on the Transcendental Meditation Technique. This research can be viewed online at www.tm.org. There have been more than 600 scientific research studies conducted at more than 200 universities and independent research institutions in 35 countries validating the benefits the Transcendental Meditation Technique for mind, body, behaviour, and environment.

Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
