Classical music therapy helps newborns
China Daily Translate This Article
10 September 2005
On 10 September 2005 China Daily reported:
Music therapy is being used successfully at the Kosica-Saca hospital in Slovakia to help babies deal with the stress of being separated from their mothers after birth, and to stabilize the breathing of babies born prematurely and babies with health problems.
Global Good News service views this news as a sign of rising positivity in the field of health, documenting the growth of life-supporting, evolutionary trends.
The article said that within a few hours of their birth, the babies listen to music on headphones, the intensity of sound being equivalent to normal footsteps or the opening of a door.
Slavka Viragova, the doctor who started the project said, 'In general, music therapy helps a baby to gain weight, get rid of stress, and handle pain better.' She explained that a baby is used to hearing its mother's heartbeat in the womb, so listening to music helps it feel protected in the time right after birth when she is not with it.
The article reported: 'At the hospital, the newborns listen five or six times a day to a 10-minute piece of music consisting of either one of Mozart's classical works, a piano composition by French pianist Richard Clayderman, a mix of natural forest sounds, or some other soothing music.'
New mothers have approved and praised the music therapy project for its good affects on their babies.
