Alternative cures find financial favor

31 January 2005
On 31 January 2005 Miami Herald reported:
The Miami Herald reported that alternative medicine is slowly becoming accepted by the healthcare establishment. This new openness is based on mounting supporting research, such as the new study showing more significant improvements for hypertensive patients with the Transcendental Meditation Programme than from traditional health education or relaxation techniques.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
The article noted that a third of the US population uses alternative medicine, which has grown to become a $30 billion industry. Insurance companies are beginning to jump on board. The latest is Vista Healthplan, which earlier this month announced a discount program for its members of up to 30 per cent for 30 alternative programmes, including yoga, tai chi and nutrition therapy.
The article acknowledged some alternative treatments have been shown to work as well or better than traditional medicine.
In this context they mentioned the recent study reported in the January issue of the American Journal of Hypertension which followed 150 men and women with high blood pressure who were prescribed either the Transcendental Meditation Programme, muscle relaxation therapy, or health education classes. 'The conclusion: TM did the best job of lowering blood pressure.'
The article said that in the US, the federally-funded National Institutes of Health have put $120 million into the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine to study what works and what doesn't. At least 27 universities are in a consortium studying alternatives.
They quoted one expert as saying, 'If you don't do that research, it's like 'buyer beware'... I don't think that's a good policy.'
The article also said that many consumers are asking their health care providers for more choices.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
