Half of Scotland's energy consumption came from renewables last year

On 31 March 2016 The Herald reported: Scotland has met one of its key targets for renewable energy consumption, and is now more than halfway to meeting its ambitious target of producing its entire annual electricity needs from renewable energy sources by 2020. Statistics published by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change show 57.7 per cent of Scottish electricity consumption came from renewables in 2015 -- 7.7 per cent ahead of the 50 per cent target. Dr Richard Dixon, director of Friends of the Earth Scotland, said, 'This is great news and an important step in creating a fossil-free Scotland.'
