India: At Consciousness-Based Education schools, training of teachers is valued

For the fourth year, 100 per cent of the 148 Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools in India are continuing with a sequential programme of training in Consciousness-Based Education for their teachers and principals.

Dr Girish Varma, Chairman of the Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group, has said that the schools' success is due largely to the uniquely effective system of education they utilize and to the dedicated faculty and staff they employ.

For the training, teachers and administrators are invited to attend one-week residential courses at a campus at the geographical centre (Brahmasthan) of India.

The goal of the course is to give deeper theoretical understanding and practical experience of Maharishi's Vedic Science and its practical technologies of consciousness, Dr Varma said. Thus far, 752 teachers have participated.

Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group also organizes national subject seminars and workshops to help teachers stay up-to-date on topics they teach. 'One hundred seventy teachers have participated and refreshed their knowledge of their respective disciplines, and updated themselves with new research and teaching methodologies,' Dr Varma said.

In addition, 400 other teachers have participated in similar regional workshops designed to enhance their understanding of their chosen discipline and keep them on the cutting edge.

More achievements this year from the Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group include construction of 19 new schools completed, with construction of 14 more underway.

Dr Varma noted that all the new schools being built include meditation areas where students can together practise Transcendental Meditation and the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi programme.

Currently, 111 schools have facilities designated for meditation, but Dr Varma hopes that in the next two years all branches of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools will be fully equipped. He explained the importance of this in allowing the maximum number of students across the country to participate in TM-Sidhi Yogic Flying at the same time. This is one of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's peace-creating technologies of consciousness, which scientific research has shown to reduce social stress, crime, and violence, and create a powerful influence of coherence, harmony, and peace in national consciousness.
