The article profiles Mikaila Maidment, who has been drawing for as long as she could pick up a pencil. Her love of painting and drawing led her to study art at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, where she earned a BFA and then an MFA. Since then, she has painted murals in Ireland, illustrated children's books, and graphically designed products for a variety of companies.

Mikaila was 12 when she moved to Fairfield from British Columbia with her family to attend Maharishi School. She has practiced the Transcendental Meditation technique since childhood and felt right at home with Consciousness-Based education.

''For me MUM is about balance,'' Mikaila said. ''That's why I wanted to go to MUM. I didn't want to sacrifice other parts of my life to study art. I wanted to be a healthy, balanced person.''
