Speaking 12 November 2008 on Maharishi Global Family Chat, Dr Peter Swan, Minister of Communication for the Global Country of World Peace, presented a video clip from the third annual National Summit on Student Health and Education, 'Quiet Time in the Classroom', held in New York City on 16 October. In the video, two students at an inner city school in the New England region of the United States described their experiences with the Transcendental Meditation Technique, which they practice twice daily as part of the Quiet Time programme.
One student, a high school football player and aspiring computer engineer, said that practicing Transcendental Meditation (TM) helps him concentrate on his schoolwork despite surrounding 'chaos'. 'That concentration is what I need to move on during the day,' he said. 'It controls my attitude, my feelings, and my ability to stay on task.' In addition, the young man said that TM helps him restore mental and physical balance after football practice, allowing him to return home in a peaceful state. Finally, he said that Transcendental Meditation has created an overall positive effect on his school environment, which tends towards chaos and noise, with frequent violent outbreaks.
Another student at the school, a participant in multiple leadership activities and honours classes, says that Transcendental Meditation keeps her from feeling overwhelmed by her busy schedule. 'The programme has increased my efficiency, allowing me to do well in all my activities. It makes me feel that I can do anything I put my mind to.' She concluded by expressing her hope that all students around the world could one day learn the Transcendental Meditation Technique, so as to experience the same clarity, confidence, and personal growth that she has.
