Dr Alarik Arenander*, Director of the Brain Research Institute at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, and his wife Dr Cynthia Arenander, recently reported on their six-week tour of India from early September through late October. They visited eight cities, making presentations to the great intellects, academics, and opinion-makers in India about Maharishi's Vedic Science and total brain development. The presentations included live brainwave demonstrations showing increased coherence of brainwave activity through the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique.

Speaking on the Maharishi Global Family Chat, Dr Arenander described their visit to Maharishi Vidya Mandirs, which are the largest chain of privately owned public schools in the nation, covering 16 states in 118 cities all over India.

Dr Arenander explained that Vidya means 'Knowledge' and Mandir means 'Temple'. It is only appropriate, he continued, that they are called 'Temples of Knowledge' rather than 'schools', because they offer Maharishi's Vedic Science and Technology, which is capable of bringing enlightenment to the student and invincibility to the nation.

There are over 80,000 young students enjoying Transcendental Meditation and Consciousness-Based Education in more than 140 branches across India—and most of their parents also practise Transcendental Meditation, Dr Arenander said.

While the schools have an open enrolment policy, students display an extraordinary level of academic and extra-curricular achievement as a result of the Consciousness-Based educational programme.

Dr Arenander said that it was heartwarming to see these children—their eyes shining with Maharishi's knowledge, with bliss, with love—and radiating the value of 'the world is my family'.

The presentations to the children were always very lively and fun, and highly interactive. The students discussed points of knowledge, so that it was an active learning process. The teachers were so impressed by the format of the presentations, they said they plan to use it in their classes.

The main theme in the presentations to the Vidya Mandirs was 'Maharishi has given us the key to open up our ultimate treasury'—the full potential of the brain.

Global Good News will feature the continuation of Dr Arenander's talk in the coming days.

*Alarik Arenander, PhD, is also Director of Research at the Center for Leadership Performance, a division of Maharishi University of Management's Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy. Dr Arenander, an expert in the neurobiology of brain development and mind-body health, has conducted pioneering research at the University of California at Los Angeles, Penn State University at Hershey, University of Wisconsin at Madison, and Maharishi University of Management.
