The monthly magazine Spirit & Destiny recently featured a housing development in the UK that is built according to the standards of Maharishi Vastu architecture.
Maharishi Vastu architecture, also known as Maharishi Sthapatya Veda, is building and planning in accord with the laws of nature.
Richard Johnson, a resident of the development, said, 'We should all live in harmony with the natural laws of the cosmos. Building design can support us in doing this.'
The article, entitled 'Estate of Mind', offers an in-depth look at the Vastu neighbourhood known as Maharishi Garden Village in Rendlesham, Suffolk, England.
The article begins, 'It looks like an upmarket development of executive homes, yet behind the manicured gardens and picket fences, this Suffolk estate is home to a thriving spiritual community. Spirit & Destiny meets the meditating residents of Maharishi Garden Village.'
It goes on to describe the beautiful development further. 'It comes as something of a surprise to find there's a purpose-built Transcendental Meditation estate near Rendlesham in Suffolk. With its houses built from traditional brick with red clay roofs bordered by neatly tended gardens, it looks more like a set from Brookside than the home of a revolution.'
Mr Johnson responded, 'The houses do look conventional. We wanted the architecture to fit in locally but also to bring out the simple, fundamental doctrines of Transcendental Meditation architecture.'
The article includes features on some of the families who live in Maharishi Garden Village.
'The people who live here are more settled but have expanded awareness,' Mr Johnson said. 'It makes them feel more creative and effective in their activities. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi described these as Fortune-Creating homes; that's about realizing the fortune you have rather than getting more money,' he explained. 'Although some people do rather well too.'
