Promising new research results and a training programme are increasing awareness in the United States of the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Programme for many kinds of psychological disorders.
Dr Sarina Grosswald* recently reported** on special training programmes she has offered for Teachers of Transcendental Meditation to bring the technique to people with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), which affects about 4.5 million students in the US.
Dr Grosswald showed a video clip illustrating the effect of Transcendental Meditation in the family of a policeman whose son had ADHD. The whole family learned the technique together, and the son was able to come off his medications three weeks later.
Dr Grosswald also showed another compelling clip of an interview with a soldier who had returned from conflict and was suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Dr Grosswald and others conducted an initial study, for which results were so encouraging that they have been invited to submit a proposal for a larger study to help many more returning members of the military.
* Sarina Grosswald, EdD, is an expert in cognitive learning who recently directed the first-of-its-kind research study on the effects of the Transcendental Meditation Programme on children with language-based learning disabilities. Dr Grosswald's work has been extensively featured in the national media in the US, including PBS and ABC News.
** Dr Grosswald's report was featured on the 26 January 2010 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
