Since his retirement in 2009 as CEO of Hartford Financial Services Group, Dr Ramani Ayer—the first Indo-American CEO of a Fortune 500 company—has turned his interests and efforts towards creating world peace.
In his retirement Dr Ayer has focused on creating a better world through the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, and through the Global Peace Initiative.
This year Dr Ayer addressed large audiences throughout North America about the attainable possibility of creating sustainable peace in the world. At the Meadows Club in Chicago, Dr Ayer spoke to a mostly Indo-American audience of nearly 1,000 about the vision of the founder of the Global Peace Initiative, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
'He worked tirelessly from the time he left India [in 1957] to bring the fruits of Vedic wisdom to benefit all of mankind.'
According to Dr Ayer, Maharishi's vision was to establish a group of 9,000 Maharishi Vedic Pandits—peace-creating experts—in India. Those Pandits would practise 'Yoga and Yagya'*—Vedic technologies of consciousness, to create an indomitable influence of coherence and peace in the world.
Through these practices, Maharishi explained, 'you can diffuse enmity and prevent the breakout of violence,' said Dr Ayer. 'You can actually end the cycle of retaliatory violence that spawns terrorism around the world. You can create a cooperative and peaceful working society, and you can ensure lasting security and stability for all mankind.'
Dr Ayer continued, '[Maharishi's] goal was to create experts from the Vedic tradition, experts who were trained by him, who were trained in the system of Yoga and Yagya' that Maharishi brought to light from the Vedic literature.
This is the goal of the Global Peace Initiative, Dr Ayer said. 'Through this performance of Yoga and Yagya, Maharishi explained that we could create peace on earth.'
* Yoga refers to the Pandits' daily group practice of Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques, including Yogic Flying. Maharishi Yagyas are precise Vedic performances conducted by Vedic Pandits, to create specific life-supporting influences for individuals, nations, and the world from the field of pure consciousness, the Unified Field of total natural law.
