A variety of recent news reports have indicated improvements in the quality of life for Canadians. The indicators covered many areas, including financial institutions, unemployment rates, and economic and trade relations. Following are a few highlights from a presentation on this topic by Mr John Cowhig, a longtime teacher of the Transcendental Meditation programme in Canada:

∙ Moody's has reaffirmed Canada's AAA status, saying that Canadian banks still are considered to be low-risk banks. They went further to comment that Canada has the strongest banking structure in the world.

∙ Unemployment in Canada is just above 7%, whereas in other parts of the world it is significantly higher.

∙ National news stories noted that the manufacturing sector has roared back this year and is currently operating at levels not seen since 1989. Increased demand is promoting increases in manufacturing. Vehicle sales are on the rise. Building permits are up 7.4%.

∙ Canada stands to eliminate its deficit by 2014 or 2015. Canada is currently negotiating four major free-trade pacts with different countries around the world. Trade with the United States has jumped 38%.

∙ On the United Nations 'happiness' ranking, this year Canada ranks fifth in the world. Canada also has the distinction of having three of the top ten best cities to live in. During the last year nearly half of the population over age 15, or 13.3 million people, donated their time to various nonprofit organizations and charities.

∙ The Global Peace Index of the Institute for Economy and Peace ranks Canada as the fourth most peaceful country in the world. The rankings include 158 countries.

∙ Substance abuse—both of alcohol and drugs—is down substantially in the high school age bracket in Canada.

∙ A group of 150 Canadian scientists, funded by the Canadian government, participated in the development of the Large Hadron Collider at the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) near Geneva, Switzerland. Some are continuing to do research involving the use of the gigantic particle accelerator, which recently found evidence that may indicate discovery of the elusive Higgs boson.

Canadian administrators of the Transcendental Meditation programme attribute these wide-ranging improvements to the rise of coherence in the collective consciousness of the nation, as a result of increasing participation by Canadians in the full range of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes to improve the quality of life for individuals and the whole society.

Among these programmes are Transcendental Meditation and the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi programme, including Yogic Flying. Scientific research has shown increased positive trends in society, including improved economic trends, as a result of group practice of these technologies of consciousness.
