50th anniversary celebration of Maharishi's first visit to Canada
Canadian practitioners of Transcendental Meditation joined together recently to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes and technologies of consciousness, including Transcendental Meditation, in their country. In the 50 years since Maharishi first visited the country, the development of substantial, effective programmes in all of these technologies has supported the rise of peace, harmony, prosperity, and progress—invincibility—in the nation. During the last four years the number of people who learned Transcendental Meditation increased by 600 per cent. In the last year alone a 300 per cent increase was seen.
School administrators at the Victoria School for Ideal Education in Victoria, British Columbia, announced plans to enlarge the school. A second storey that will house two new classrooms is being added. Teachers have said the school plans to add one grade per year until they reach the 12th grade.
Victoria School, an independent school that has been operating as a Maharishi School for 22 years, offers classes for grades K-6. A recent TV newscast reported that the style of teaching, called Consciousness-Based Education, uses Transcendental Meditation 'to better prepare students for learning'.
There are seven ongoing Conscious-Based Education programmes in schools across Canada—including in Toronto, Edmonton, and Victoria.
This summer Dr Ashley Deans, a Canadian who is recognized as an international expert in Consciousness-Based Education,* offered two in-house seminars—one in Canada, the other in Europe. The seminars were for teachers and administrators interested in using Consciousness-Based Education in their curriculum. Based on the successes in schools around the world that have incorporated a Consciousness-Based Education curriculum, Dr Deans suggested that the example has been set and more schools would likely soon be choosing to adopt the very popular programme.
Participants in a two-week summer Transcendental Meditation assembly at Huntsville Academy in Lake of Bays, Ontario, engaged in round-table discussions on how to make Maharishi's technologies available throughout Canada—with a focus on administration, teacher support, target marketing, sustainability, and Consciousness-Based Education.
The chairman and founder of a major Vancouver firm reported on the Brahmananda Saraswati Foundation of Canada, whose purpose and goal is to support a large, permanent group of Maharishi Vedic Pandits at the centre of India, as well as training more Pandits to augment groups there and in other locations. The Pandits are experts in performing special Vedic peace-creating technologies of consciousness brought to light by Maharishi to create a powerful, sustained influence of peace, prosperity, and harmony in world consciousness, and on behalf of individual nations.
A campaign to offer more opportunities for Canadians to participate and bring this programme's positive effects to their country has led to a great increase in support for the programme this year.
