How is the Transcendental Meditation technique different?

How is the TM technique different? It's well-known that different meditation techniques engage the mind in different ways and produce different effects on the mind, body and behavior.
Some techniques involve watching your thoughts or focusing on your breathing or bodily sensations. Others employ concentration, visualization or trying to clear your mind of thoughts. There's also guided meditation, contemplation or meditating for insight.
The Transcendental Meditation technique is unlike all of these—in fact, it's a completely different process.
How Is TM different?
It's effortless: You don't have to concentrate, focus your attention, or control your mind. In fact, effortlessness is the key to TM's effectiveness.
It's transcendental: TM allows you to spontaneously transcend or go beyond thoughts, deep within, to experience a revitalizing state of restful alertness or pure consciousness. When you transcend, you access your silent reserves of energy, creativity and intelligence—infusing more and more clarity and happiness into daily life.
More scientifically verified benefits: Over 350 peer-reviewed studies—conducted at independent research institutes and medical schools—verify that the technique relieves stress, promotes inner peace and rejuvenates mind and body. And the research suggests a range of benefits not seen in studies on other meditation techniques.
For example, a large comparative study at Stanford University found that TM reduces anxiety far more effectively than other meditation techniques. Research sponsored by the National Institutes of Health found that TM practice reduces heart disease and stroke by 47%—and no other meditation technique or health intervention has been found to produce such effects.
At a time when women strive to balance their greater freedom and success in life, with personal and spiritual growth, the TM technique allows women to access the most silent and peaceful level of their inner nature, and develop a truly integrated consciousness.
