The new Maharishi Peace Palace under construction in Erfurt, Germany is developing into a truly community-supported centre.
'Everyone is very supportive to this project; everyone likes it,' Dr Eckart Stein, the project leader, commented.
A Peace Palace is a home of pure knowledge, a centre where anyone who is interested can learn Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's technologies of consciousness, including the Transcendental Meditation Programme, to create permanent peace. A centre which is integrated into and supported by its community, like the new Peace Palace in Erfurt, can therefore be more effective in fulfilling its purpose, organizers said.
This project, the first of its kind in Europe, has been community-driven since its inception. A group of people who practise Transcendental Meditation in the area decided to build a centre where they could meditate together. Additionally, this centre would provide a full range of courses and programmes offering Total Knowledge of natural law, and create a peaceful influence for the whole community.
Once the idea was formulated, supporters and helpers from all over Germany came together to move the project forward quickly.
It was a meditator who cleared the land before construction, and two other meditators who surveyed the cleared land, finding the precise spot for the building's centre. The surveyors used GPS co-ordinates, and when that wasn't accurate enough, they conducted calculations based on the location of the pole star. All these calculations were necessary to find the most life-supporting and auspicious location for the Peace Palace according to Vastu principles of Vedic architecture, an essential component of the Peace Palace design.
As well as having the support of the meditating community, the new Peace Palace has the support of other Erfurt residents. In the building office, many people commented that the design was great. Dr Stein elaborated, saying, 'It very nicely fits in the traditional way of building in Germany.'
