Holland: Limburg province's 'spiritual tourism' campaign to include Transcendental Meditation, Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care

A campaign to promote 'spiritual tourism' in the province of Limburg, Holland is beginning next week. The initiative, which originated with the Limburg Chamber of Commerce, was developed in response to rising interest among the Dutch population in spirituality, especially meditation—more than 54% of Dutch citizens have indicated that they are interested in spirituality.

The campaign has received support from the business sector and the government. Of all the Dutch provinces, Limburg was chosen as the locale for the campaign because it has the most places of spiritual interest, including Maharishi European Research University (MERU) in Vlodrop. In the past few years more than 6,500 tourists have visited MERU, which was for many years the residence of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Among special programmes being offered by 28 groups participating in the Limburg spiritual tourism campaign will be courses in Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and wellness programmes in Maharishi Ayur-Veda natural health care, offered in three and one-half day formats, as well as day-activities of 1-3 hours:
∙ seven-step course to learn the Transcendental Meditation technique
∙ seminars on different aspects of Maharishi Ayur-Veda, including Yoga Asanas
∙ Maharishi Ayur-Veda treatment approaches such as Ayurvedic massage (Abhyanga), Maharishi Light Therapy with Gems, VedAroma, and Maharishi Vedic Vibration Technology.

All the programmes will be held at a newly acquired facility in St. Odilienberg near MERU, which is five minutes from beautiful forest and lakeside walks.

A beautifully produced booklet of these course offerings and treatments is being featured in the general campaign advertising.
