US: Second annual nationwide gala helps less-fortunate learn Transcendental Meditation

27 September 2011
On 24 September, 85 Maharishi Invincibility Centres in the United States held their second annual gala celebration to inspire support for those who have a sincere desire to learn the Transcendental Meditation Programme but are facing financial challenges, as well as support for the daily programmes offered by these valuable Centres throughout the nation.
Making Transcendental Meditation (TM) available to all areas of society has been the goal of the worldwide, nonprofit TM organization since it was founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1959. Now, growing recognition of the profound benefits of the programme has created an unprecedented demand for it by individuals and institutions around the globe.
A major feature of the nationwide gala celebration was a 35-minute video, which included an introduction by world-renowned quantum physicist Dr John Hagelin,* who directs the implementation of the Transcendental Meditation Programme nationwide; and a short excerpt of Maharishi describing the main purpose and goal of Transcendental Meditation. The video also contained clips from the second annual 'Change Begins Within' benefit last December in New York, in which renowned artists and health professionals explain benefits of TM; and from inspiring speeches by administrators of a school in California, USA, describing the very positive effects of the programme for their at-risk students.
This year's gala event provided an opportunity for community members to express their appreciation for their local Maharishi Invincibility Centres and their dedicated work to bring the benefits of Maharishi's programmes to everyone.
* Dr Hagelin is also President of the David Lynch Foundation; Executive Director of the International Center for Invincible Defense, and Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy.
