US: News media feature initiatives for peace, education, and sustainability

Initiatives in the United States for peace, education, and sustainability drew media attention this past year. Celebrity support and a travel destination also helped highlight programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Twenty-one articles were published on creating coherence, harmony, and invincibility for individual nations and the world, many written by David R. Leffler, PhD, United States Air Force veteran. Offering and bringing attention to this profound knowledge and technology for peace will be a major focus for the coming year, said a US teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Programme.

Several celebrities who practise Transcendental Meditation have been speaking compellingly and with great insight about the power and depth of the technique—and have also helped inspire media coverage.

Press articles have come out about Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, some of which focussed on the university's Sustainable Living Center. Now under construction, the Sustainable Living Center is the university's first fully off-the-grid building. It was described by the Associated Press as 'the ultimate green building' in an article carried by Forbes, BusinessWeek, MSNBC, and other national media.

Travel writers have also featured Maharishi Vedic City. Incorporated on 25 July 2001, the city is celebrating its tenth anniversary, and offers Vedic architecture, Vedic health care, and Vedic agriculture among other programmes to create a model of ideal city life.
