The Vedic Pandit project in Maharishi Vedic City in the United States is approaching its five-year anniversary. The project was established in 2006 as part of the Invincible America Assembly.
The Assembly is a large group of people in Maharishi Vedic City and at Maharishi University of Management in neighboring Fairfield, Iowa, who practise Transcendental Meditation and the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying, together twice a day. The group was founded to create a sustained, powerful effect of coherence and harmony in the collective consciousness of the US and the world.
Dr Robert Wynne, Mayor of Maharishi Vedic City, recently gave an update on the success and growth of the Vedic Pandits project.
Over the past three years, he said, an average of 965 Vedic Pandits have been in residence on their 60-acre (24-hectare) campus that consists of 250,000 square feet (23,225 square metres) of housing, dining halls, meditation halls, Vedic performance halls, and recreation facilities.
During these three years, the Vedic Pandits have constituted over one-half of those on the Invincible America Assembly. Many positive trends developed for the U.S. during that time, Dr Wynne said, such as a reduction in the crime rate to a 40-year low.
Plans are underway to increase the number of Pandits to 1,250 so that, together with community members, the Assembly will always have at least 2,000 participants practising Yogic flying together. 'The goal has always been to have 2,000 on the Invincible America Assembly at all times, to ensure a powerful influence of coherence for the country,' Dr Wynne said.
The Vedic Pandits have another special attribute, he explained—they are uniquely trained to perform daily Vedic recitations that have a further harmonizing influence on the environment.
Administrators of the Pandit campus are organizing for construction to create more facilities, as well as travel and other aspects for the additional Vedic Pandits.
