25 February 2011
The founders of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Bulgaria were honoured at a recent event in the capital city, Sofia. A group of faculty from Maharishi University of Management and Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, they had travelled to Bulgaria in 1989 to begin offering the programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the country.
The founders were honoured at a large gathering during the visit of Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, to Bulgaria in February. Dr Morris met with many leaders and members of the Global Country in Bulgaria on the day of his arrival, said Dr Donka Hodjeva, National Director of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Bulgaria, in a report on 25 February.
In the evening Dr Morris gave an special extended lecture to a large group of Teachers and practitioners of Transcendental Meditation, including many who also practise the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying.
It was the Prime Minister's idea to connect the founders—Dr Richard and Andrea Beall; and Lawrence and Laurie Eyre*—with the meeting in Bulgaria via teleconference from the United States, where they continue their many years' association with Maharishi School in Fairfield, Dr Hodjeva said.
This original group of Transcendental Meditation Teachers had come to Bulgaria during a challenging period for the country, when the transition to democracy was taking place, she explained. During their stay over several months in 1989-1990, together with colleagues from Canada who came to help them later on, they taught thousands of people the Transcendental Meditation Technique in a very short time.
Their teaching activities provided the foundation for Maharishi's worldwide organizations to be established in the country, to offer the full range of his programmes to benefit all areas of society and create a peaceful, positive influence of coherence and harmony for the nation.
The four Americans spoke to the gathering in Sofia, and Dr Hodjeva commented that it was very moving for many people to hear their voices. She expressed her appreciation to the Prime Minister for organizing the teleconference call, which reenlivened their connection with the first Teachers in Bulgaria. 'We look forward to welcoming them to Bulgaria again very soon,' she said.
Earlier in the day Dr Morris also met with Bulgarian Teachers of Transcendental Meditation at a special luncheon at the Maharishi Invincibility Centre** in Sofia.
