During the recent global celebrations of the new year, leaders of the Global Country of World Peace reported on achievements of the past year in many countries, in implementing and expanding programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in education, health care, architecture, business administration, agriculture, and many other areas of individual and social life.

As the presentations continued over several days of the international conference beginning 12 January in MERU, Holland and at the Brahmasthan (geographical centre) of India, it became apparent that these achievements are being reflected in rising positive trends including decreased violence, improving economic conditions and reduction of poverty around the world, as reported in the global news media.

At the heart of the upsurge of these positive trends is the rising power of coherence and positivity in collective consciousness resulting from the daily practice of large groups of practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation and advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying, in many areas.

The Administrator of the Global Country of World Peace in the United Kingdom commented on these improving global trends in an address on 13 January, before going on to describe specific examples of this phenomenon in the UK. He referred to a recent article in The Times of London, the headline of which stated, 'Things are getting better'. The article quoted researchers from Harvard and Columbia universities in the United States, to the effect that the past decade has seen the lowest number of deaths in war since records began in 1945.

The article continued discussing other positive changes found by the same researchers, for example that during this same period there has been a reduction in the disparity between rich and poor nations of the world.

The Administrator for the UK explained that this trend is in accord with principles brought to light by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace, in his Vedic Science and technology of consciousness, that world peace is also dependent on prosperity in the world—world peace means fulfilment in every aspect of life.

Further evidence of this development was presented in the article, quoting International Monetary Fund (IMF) data that, aside from Europe and North America, in the past year the world has been booming. China and India, with 40% of the world's population, achieved roughly 10% growth between them, and Africa 5%; with similar figures likely in Latin America, the Administrator said. In addition, because this 'boom' is happening in poorer countries, it is rapidly reducing poverty in the world. Despite the great recession, per capita gross domestic product (GDP)—the value of goods and services consumed in a year by the average person—is now just over $11,000, up from $8,000 in today's dollars at the start of the century.

'So we see,' the leader from the UK said, 'balance growing in world consciousness; we see the removal of poverty; we see prosperity growing in the world; we see the reduction of negativity and tension, the reduction of war deaths.'

He referred to the presentation at the 12 January celebration by Dr John Hagelin, Administrator of Maharishi's programmes in the United States, about the proposal of the US Department of Defence to dramatically cut the US military budget and the number of personnel in all of the armed forces.

'The same thing has already happened very significantly in the UK,' he said, noting concerns voiced by some people that this may entail a loss in jobs. 'But the experts in finance always point out that whenever military numbers are reduced, the private sector and the government sector pick up, and the result is actually an expansion of the economy.' People worry about reduction in jobs due to cutting back the military, but the result is a growth in the economy, and the creation of even more jobs than the number that were lost, he said.

The Administrator noted that, as earlier speakers had also pointed out, 'all of these huge dramatic changes are due to the large and increasing numbers of Yogic Flyers, Maharishi Vedic Pandits, and all the practitioners of Transcendental Meditation in the world.'

Global Good News will continue featuring highlights of the UK Administrator's presentation of news and achievements in that nation; as well as more reports from leaders of the Global Country of World Peace in other countries.
