15 January 2011
Many people have begun practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Iceland in the almost two years since Dr David Lynch's visit to the country in May 2009, which has led to dramatic effects in the political and economic life of the country.
Since the visit of Dr Lynch, 1,000 people have learnt Transcendental Meditation—500 within the past year. The total number of TM practitioners is now equal to one-third of one per cent of the national population, which has produced a strong coherence-creating effect for the nation.
In the area of politics, citizen participation has moved beyond partisan debate. While Iceland was affected harshly by the economic crisis, it has recovered much more quickly and strongly than expected. Moreover, auto fatalities in the country have been at their lowest level in 50 years.
To perpetuate these positive trends, plans for 2011 are in the works to train new Transcendental Meditation teachers in Iceland, as well as to offer a course in the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme and establish a coherence-creating group of Yogic Flyers for the nation.
These recent achievements for Iceland were reported in continuing sessions of the 12 January 2011 global celebrations in MERU, Holland.
