18 November 2010
In honour of the 50th anniversary of the first visit of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, filmmaker Dr David Lynch recently travelled to Norway to support programmes to benefit students and prison inmates.*
Dr Lynch's visit attracted extensive attention from the media, government leaders, and young people.
During a VIP luncheon Dr Lynch answered questions for a full hour. He also held interviews with government officials and the media.
Young people waited in line for 24 hours to get tickets to his talk at a film club. The event was publicized not as a discussion of filmmaking, but a presentation about the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in schools and prisons.
Dr Lynch spoke eloquently, a leader of the Global Country of World Peace commented on 18 November, and the overflowing audience streamed to another hall in the same building so that they could hear him speak.
Government leaders in education and justice also met with Dr Lynch, and these meetings received media attention as well.
At the Royal Palace, Dr Lynch discussed the Transcendental Meditation Programme with the Crown Prince and Princess and gave them a book about Yogic Flying. They reported on their webpage that they were very impressed with Dr Lynch.
Dr Lynch also held a book signing and signed 300 copies of his book 'Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity', which has been translated into Norwegian.
