23 April 2010
Maharishi University of Management (MUM) is proud to announce the annual EcoFair, organized by the Sustainable Living Department. The EcoFair will be held in the Argiro Student Center on the MUM campus in Fairfield, Iowa, USA. This year's program features planet-friendly workshops, an unconference, eco-minded speakers and environmental films (titles are included in the conference schedule).
For the past 10 years Maharishi University of Management faculty and students, as well local and regional residents have gathered to celebrate sustainability and the green way of life.
In previous years, speakers included recognized authors, well-known personalities in the Green Movement, experts, and hands-on workshops. This year, the EcoFair's theme will be Sustainable Communities.
The EcoFair's main purpose is to educate and inspire students and the community about the importance of sustainable practices. Students are the driving force behind this ecological event. In exchange for volunteering their time, students gain practical experience in event organization, leadership skills, and managerial practices.
Since its inception ten years ago, the EcoFair has focused on one particular aspect or theme of sustainability. This theme is chosen by students and faculty at the Sustainable Living Department.
Sunday Unconference The final day of Ecofair will be 'structured' as an Unconference using Open Space Technology. Open Space Technology is a highly participatory process that has been successfully employed in multiple situations all over the world, including Transition Town initiatives. The theme of the Unconference day is: 'How can we create sustainable community where we live?'
