28 January 2010
Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group in India has been honoured with a very special award, the Distinguished Educational Institution Award for 2009, by the Federation of Educational Publishers in New Delhi.
Dr Girish Varma,* National Director of the Global Country of World Peace in India, continued his report on the past year of achievements of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's organizations in the nation, during the global 12 January celebration in MERU, Holland and India.
Presenting more achievements, Dr Varma commented that at the Brahmasthan* of India, they have been very honoured to receive Raja Harris Kaplan, Raja of Invincible India, and Dr Arlene Kaplan, along with other Rajas and leaders of the Global Country of World Peace, who have been in residence there during 2009. Raja Harris and others toured the many school, university, and Maharishi Vedic Pandit campuses around India, bringing great inspiration to both students and Pandits at all the different locations.
Dr David Lynch, renowned filmmaker and founder of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, and his film crew from Hollywood and Mumbai toured historic places of India for ten days. They were filming footage for Dr Lynch's upcoming film on Maharishi's life and supreme achievements.
A three-day Maharishi National Cultural Celebration in October 2009 introduced students to the cultural values of different parts of India, Dr Varma said. Thousands of students, parents, and teachers from all 16 states of India took part in this celebration. Awards were given to the teachers and students who gave the best presentations.
The Maharishi Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Training was established in 2001 to develop self-confidence, discipline, courage, and leadership qualities in students. Every year the Institute organizes an adventure and mountaineering tour to various hill stations throughout the country. In 2009, 117 students from 19 schools took part in this year's tour in the Himalayas. There was special emphasis on understanding nature through the knowledge of Maharishi's Vedic Science, and on enjoying adventure sports without causing environmental degradation.
Global Good News will feature the conclusion of Dr Varma's address to the 12th January celebration in the coming days.
* Dr Varma is also Director-General of the Maharishi Global Capital of World Peace at the Brahmasthan [auspicious central area] of the nation; Chairman of the 160 Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group; and President of Maharishi Institutes of Management and Information Technology, in India.
