Maharishi University of Management is proud to announce the celebration of two great events in the history of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in the United States and of the University. Two celebrations—20 and 27 December 2009—will mark the 30th anniversary of both the first World Peace Assembly in the world, held under the direction and guidance of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Amherst, Massachusetts, and the move of many of its participants to Maharishi University of Management (M.U.M.) in Fairfield, Iowa.
In the summer of 1979, almost 3,000 people gathered for the first World Peace Assembly* at Amherst, Massachusetts, in the United States. It was during this historic World Peace Assembly that Maharishi asked all the Teachers of Transcendental Meditation and individuals practising the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme and Yogic Flying to move their families and businesses to Fairfield, Iowa, the home of Maharishi University of Management—to establish the first coherence-creating community—a permanent group to create coherence for the whole nation.
The large international group of Yogic Flyers established in 1979 continues to the present in Fairfield and neighbouring Maharishi Vedic City, and is now known as the Invincible America Assembly. The Assembly has almost 2,000 participants, including 1,050 Yogic Flying Vedic Pandits from India who also perform special Yagyas (Vedic peace-creating performances) for the invincibility of the United States and for world peace.
To celebrate this historic achievement of the first United States World Peace Assembly and the Invincibility group in Fairfield, a variety of speakers at the celebration will tell their stories about how Maharishi's request was fulfilled.
Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management and Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, led the Amherst World Peace Assembly and spearheaded the move to Fairfield. He will speak on both nights of the celebration.
Speakers will also include: The Honourable Ed Malloy, Mayor of Fairfield, Iowa; Dr Stuart Zimmerman and Dr Larry Chroman, who led the way in construction of housing and support for establishing the large group in Fairfield; and Dr Douglas Birx, Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme Administrator for M.U.M. and the United States for many years, who has instructed thousands of individuals in the programme.
Dr Fred Gratzon, an entrepreneur whose companies employed many of those who came to Fairfield, and author of the book The Lazy Way to Success, will speak, along with Dr Gregg Wilson, a leader of the Transcendental Meditation organization in both the United States and Canada, and a Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme Administrator for many years; Dr Mario Orsatti, National Director of Commmunication for the GLobal Country in the US; Dr Wally Devasier, Teacher and Administrator for Transcendental Meditation in the United States, now Director the Maharishi Peace Palace in Fairfield, Iowa; and Dr Brad Mylett, M.U.M. Dean of Admissions and longtime Transcendental Meditation Teacher and university administrator.
Anyone who has a story from that time in 1979, which he or she would like to share at the celebration, is invited to submit it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
* A World Peace Assembly is a special in-residence course designed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for groups of Yogic Flyers to enjoy extended practice of the Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, to accelerate their own evolution through Maharishi's Technologies of Consciousness, while creating coherence in the collective consciousness of their nation and the world. Since 1979 many such World Peace Assemblies have been held around the world.
