10 June 2009
Indonesians who practise Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme held a grand celebration to commemorate Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's visit to their country thirty years ago.
Maharishi arrived in May 1979 and remained for fourteen days—the first few days in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia on the island of Java, and then one week in Bali. The island of Bali was the main focus of his visit because Vedic civilization has been maintained there a very long time.
During his visit thirty years ago, Maharishi's discussed with leaders of society ways and means to create 'Sidha Lands' and Ideal Villages* where people could work and practise Yogic Flying together, creating invincibility for Indonesia.
A special poster created to commemorate Maharishi's visit mentioned how he had laid the foundation for invincibility for the nation and had blessed the inhabitants of the islands with the knowledge of enlightenment.
The poster states that Maharishi had offered the people a way out of suffering and promised them fulfilment in life through implementing Maharishi's Vedic Science and its practical technologies, the Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying.
'Indonesia is a big country,' said Raja Willem Meijles, Raja of Indonesia, when speaking about this commemoration ceremony on 6 June. 'It has 240 million inhabitants and 1800 islands. As it has many different cultures, the motto of the country is ''Unity in Diversity''—that is their ideal.'
*Sidhalands and Ideal Villages: Now known as Maharishi Peace Colonies—communities founded to help create invincibility for a nation, based on the principles of Maharishi's Vedic Science and its practical applications for living perfection in all areas of life—featuring a Maharishi Peace Palace, Maharishi School, Maharishi Ayur-Veda Health Centre, homes, and buildings for group practice of Yogic Flying—all built according to Vedic Architecture, Maharishi Sthapatya Veda.
