'Become a Teacher of Transcendental Meditation': Dr Dominique Lemoine describes Maharishi's programme of Teacher Training Courses

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi started the first Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Course in order to 'multiply himself'—having calculated how long it would take for him to personally teach Transcendental Meditation all over the world, he realized it would take many thousands of years.

As a result, Maharishi started the first Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Course in Rishikesh, India, in the early 1960s, and then came to Europe, where the first courses were held in Austria, Spain, and Italy, and then in the United States. Courses have now been held in many countries and there are trained Teachers in every country.

Describing the historical development of these courses, including one recently concluded in Thailand, Dr Dominique Lemoine, an Administrator for the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme and for Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Courses, said that new Teacher Training Courses take place each year. One is currently in process in Bulgaria for the Russian speaking countries; next August there will be a new course open to participants from Western Europe, Israel, Lebanon, New Zealand, and Australia.

Dr Lemoine invited all practitioners of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying, as well as Meditators, to think what is the best thing to do now in their life besides practising Transcendental Meditation twice a day—'It is to become a Teacher of Transcendental Meditation,' he said. 'It is the most beautiful profession, which Maharishi always wanted everyone to do.'

Dr Lemoine quoted from an address by Maharishi about being a Teacher: ' ''There is nothing more dear to me than someone who has the intention of teaching the Transcendental Meditation Programme. The TM Teacher is dearest to me, is nearest to my heart. He may not know, because it is difficult to give an expression, but he is dearest to me because he is that one light from where the whole area is going to be enlightened—the great hope of the present and for thousands of years to come.''

'The Teacher Training Course takes someone, one Meditator or one Yogic Flyer and gradually trains him in all the different aspects of becoming a Teacher,' Dr Lemoine said.
