A year of monthly Vedic ceremonies commemorating His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace, culminated in a grand ceremony in Allahabad, India, on 24 January 2009—the one-year commemoration, according to the lunar Vedic calendar, of Maharishi's Mahasamadhi.

Dr Girish Varma, National Director of the Global Country of World Peace in India, and Director General of the Global Capital of Raam Raj at the Brahma-Sthan (centre) of India, organized the traditional Vedic observances of Maharishi's Mahasamadhi.

The delegation from Europe, led by Maharaja Adhiraja Rajaraam, First Ruler of the Global Country of World Peace, included Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace; Raja Harris Kaplan, Raja of Invincible India; as well as other Rajas (Administrators) and Ministers.

Dr Morris said, 'It was organized so well, and we congratulate Dr Varma for all that he did to welcome Maharaja-ji and all of us so warmly.' He continued, 'We were there to represent Maharishi's world family, to show our great support to the leaders in India in their very serious and responsible programmes of conducting everything that is laid out in the Vedic tradition for this year.'

Dr Morris described the ceremony in heartfelt detail, saying that 'there was a palpable sense of Maharishi's presence'. He also referred to the plans presented recently by Dr Eike Hartmann, Minister of Architecture for the Global Country of World Peace, for a beautiful Vedic building, the Maharishi Samadhi Smarak, that will be built at the site of Maharishi's memorial ceremonies in 2008.

Concurrently, the annual Mela—spiritual festival—attended by millions of people, was taking place in Allahabad, at Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the holy rivers Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati. Dr Varma organized two days of special ceremonies to fulfil Maharishi's wishes for honouring the current Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math*, and 600 Sannyasis and other Vedic scholars.

The Shankaracharya, the most revered spiritual leader in India, spoke of Maharishi with great devotion for bringing Vedic wisdom to every part of the world. He said, 'I bow down to Guru Dev,** that he was able to bring up such a man as Maharishi, who could change everything in the world.'

* Shankaracharya Vasudevananda Saraswati Maharaj of Jyotir Math, who holds the seat that was blessed by the presence of Guru Dev.

** Maharishi's Master, Shri Guru Dev, His Divinity Brahmanand Saraswati, Jagatguru Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math, Himalayas. Guru Dev is honoured as the embodiment of Vedic wisdom closest to Maharishi in the illustrious tradition of Vedic Masters who have passed down the eternal wisdom of life from teacher to student since time immemorial.
