On the evening of 31 December 2008, Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, introduced the last celebration in 2008 of the Global Country, held in MERU, Holland.

He said that this had been a most dramatic year because 'Maharishi Mahesh Yogi had completed his work in the world in this year, and said farewell to us. He gave us the charge that under the guidance of Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam, we should carry out all that was required for administration through eternal silence*—and that the descent of Heaven on Earth should be achieved as quickly as possible.'

Dr Morris said that over the past two days the Rajas and Ministers of the Global Country of World Peace have been reviewing all the achievements of the past year. This review will be completed after the annual week of silence traditionally taken by Maharishi and the leaders of the Global Country at the beginning of each new year.

'Everyone was deeply thrilling with the accomplishments of this year,' said Dr Morris, 'which seemed to lay the foundation for an extraordinary 2009 of great steps for the creation of permanent Heaven on Earth.'

Dr Morris announced that this is the day Maharishi always celebrated as the birthday of Guru Dev, His Divinity Brahmanand Saraswati, Jagatguru Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math, Himalayas, and Maharishi's spiritual teacher. Guru Dev is revered as the embodiment of Vedic wisdom closest to Maharishi in the illustrious tradition of Vedic Masters who have passed down the eternal wisdom of life from teacher to student since time immemorial.

Dr Morris read from the section in Maharishi's book Love and God entitled 'Our Guiding Light', which gives an account of the life of Guru Dev. Parts of a film of Guru Dev were also shown.

Dr Morris then invited Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam to give his blessings to this celebration. Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam is the first Sovereign Ruler of the Global Country of World Peace, and Maharishi said, is the representative of the Vedic Tradition for us now, and 'the greatest scientist of world history, who has been weighed in gold by Maharishi for his discovery that physiology is consciousness; that the individual is cosmic and has cosmic creative potential.

'Throughout this year of 2008,' said Dr Morris, 'we have had countless instances of the great blessing it has been that Maharishi gave us such a leader . . . to unify us and keep us moving ahead in a progressive way in the direction of all that Maharishi wanted for the world.'

Dr Morris invited Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam to address the celebration; this address will be presented by Global Good News in the coming days.

* Maharishi has explained that the functioning of Maharaja Adhiraj Rajaraam's administration of the Global Country of World Peace, supporting the creation of invincibility in 192 countries of the world, is that of administration through silence—the full awakening of total Natural Law and its infinite organizing power in the consciousness of every individual and in the collective consciousness of every nation and the entire world.
