On 2 November 2008 Middle East Online reported: The United States Department of Defense is obligated to protect the US through prevention-oriented technologies by using the Invincible Defense Technology, which is based on ancient Vedic peace principles, says Dr David Leffler, an eight-year US Air Force veteran, and currently the Executive Director at the Center for Advanced Military Science (CAMS), an organization that advocates prevention-oriented technologies in the military. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of world peace.

The article stated, '(US Department of Defense) Secretary Gates said during a speech at the US Institute of Peace, ''Enlightened counter-measures we take today will bolster the internal strength of vulnerable states so they will not harbor violent networks seeking to launch the next attack.''

Dr Leffler agrees with the secretary but says that the US need not look for something new because there is already 'a proven scientifically validated counter-measure', which is Invincible Defense Technology.

The article explained, 'Extensive scientific research indicates that the best way to reduce collective societal stress, eliminate extremism and thereby snuff out war and terrorism, is to adopt an ancient strategy. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has revived the ancient Vedic knowledge of Invincible Defense Technology (IDT) in a non-religious manner. It has been quietly and successfully used by members of many faiths to eliminate conflict in the past.'

When this technology is implemented by a sufficiently large number of participants, what results is known as the Maharishi Effect (ME):

• Crime decreases

• Quality of life indices rise

• War and terrorism decline

Middle East Online reported, 'ME intervention was studied in the US capital in 1993. Predictions were lodged in advance with government leaders and newspapers. An independent Project Review Board approved the research protocol. Crime fell 23 percent below the predicted level when the group size reached its maximum. . . . The ME has also been documented world-wide in a study published in the Journal of Offender Rehabilitation using data provided by the Rand Corporation.'

Numerous studies show IDT works. Dr Leffler says that only three per cent of the US military using the IDT could achieve the goal of calming the world and creating peace.

These special units—or Prevention Wings of the Military—would be trained in the Transcendental Meditation (TM) and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, and practise their stress prevention programme twice a day in large groups near the areas of conflict.

'When large assemblies of IDT experts exceeded the ME threshold for the world during the years 1983-1985, deaths due to terrorism globally decreased 72 per cent, international conflict decreased 33 per cent, and violence was reduced in other nations without intrusion by other governments,' the article stated.

Dr Leffler says that the United States Department of Defense is obligated to protect the nation, and since Invincible Defense Technology is designed to help it achieve that goal, then 'it is the DoD's duty to build a Prevention Wing of the Military'.

Middle East Online reported, 'A paradigm shift is taking place in the US military. According to the 2007 strategy announced by the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard: ''We believe that preventing wars is as important as winning wars.'' This is the biggest revision of naval strategy in 25 years, focusing more on humanitarian missions and improving international cooperation.'

The US Army has also been exposed to this prevention technique.

Colonel Brian Rees, who has given presentations on the subject at the Army War College and Association of Military Surgeons of the US, authored an IDT research paper entitled 'The Applications of Strategic Stress Management [SSM] in Winning the Peace'.

He speaks about how IDT could prevent the collective stress responsible for war and terrorism.
