Colonel Günther Chasse, a retired officer of the German Armed Forces with 40 years of decorated military experience and Founder of Invincibility in Germany for the Global Country of World Peace, recently toured the nation presenting Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes for defence and invincibility to military officials and university professors.

Continuing his report about the tour on the Maharishi Global Family Chat, Colonel Chasse highlighted a presentation he had given to a military official that focused on the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Technique for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

If a soldier is constantly under stress, Colonel Chasse explained, then the prefrontal cortex—which is responsible for planning, reasoning, and problem solving—stops functioning. This higher level of the brain completely shuts off and the brain functions in a more primitive way: fight or flight. 'This is not what we want for soldiers and military leaders in combat situations,' Colonel Chasse said.

He explained that through the experience of Transcendental Consciousness during the practice of Transcendental Meditation, the brain functions more and more holistically. Over time, it becomes accustomed to this holistic experience of Transcendental Consciousness so that even in stressful situations the prefrontal cortex stays active. Transcendental Meditation develops global brain coherence, allowing one to think clearly and make intelligent decisions even under great stress, he said.

Colonel Chasse also presented the physiological effects of Transcendental Meditation and the decrease of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms. Scientific research on the Transcendental Meditation Programme has shown reduced trait anxiety, lower blood pressure, and decreased alcohol abuse, among many other benefits. The official was very impressed with these results and was interested in and open to new avenues of treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder .

In addition to the scheduled meetings, while he was touring through one of the cities, Colonel Chasse met with the principal of a private school with 100-150 students age 13-16 who wanted to learn more about Consciousness-Based Education. The school principal had been searching for alternatives in education because he felt the current system was not working. He found a website on Consciousness-Based Education and immediately called the local Maharishi Invincibility Centre to learn more. At the request of the Centre, Colonel Chasse met with him and was able to answer his questions about Transcendental Meditation and its wide-ranging benefits for students.
