Prominent architect and real estate developer Dr Richard Bialosky was recently featured on Maharishi Channel's Maharishi Global Family Chat, reporting on the progress of a Maharishi Peace Colony being developed in Vero Beach, Florida.

As a leader in green development in the United States, Dr Bialosky has built over 1,500 homes and apartment units, as well as many commercial and office projects. The new Maharishi Peace Colony project under development on Florida's east coast by Dr Bialosky and his partner David Ederer, is called 'Mandala Club'.

Mandala Club integrates the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda with elements of non-toxic materials, environmental sensitivities, and community planning. It is the first model for a Maharishi Peace Colony to be built in the US, with 90 homes in the first phase on 40 acres [16 hectares], and ultimately over 150 homes on 108 acres [44 hectares].

Mandala Club received the Award of Excellence in Master Planning from the Treasure Post Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture. 'I believe the jury simply saw the coherence and the beauty of
Vastu', Dr Bialosky noted. 'All we did was follow the principles of Vastu that Maharishi gave us many years ago. That has been our touchstone along the way.'

Arranged around a central Brahma-Sthan park, Mandala Club's homes and buildings include a community centre with facilities for group practice of Yogic Flying, a dining hall, condominiums, town homes, garden homes, and estate homes, all designed in the style of the local architecture. A commercial centre will have walk-to shops and offices with a Maharishi Invincibility Center and Maharishi Vedic Health Spa.

Even in today's deflated real estate market, the response of interested buyers has been overwhelming. 'Without advertising at all, we get daily calls for the Mandala Club,' Dr Bialosky said.

The reason for the favorable response, Dr Bialosky claims, is the growing appreciation for alternative, healthier living. 'The trend in city development in the US has been sprawl, and this is a problem of the non-sustainably built environment. With increasing fuel prices it is becoming apparent that we need to demolish and reconstruct. . . . In my opinion, the prevailing discontent with the chaotic pattern of development is one of the reasons for the downturn in the real estate market. We are witnessing its devaluation as the precursor of reconstruction. . . .

'Our goal with Mandala Club, as the first Maharishi Peace Colony, is to make it the most sustainable, premier healthy housing development in the US, and a showcase for Maharishi Vedic Architecture and planning.'
