During the celebration of Vijaya Dashami, Victory Day, and the 46th anniversary of Maharishi's first visit to Canada, leaders of the Global Country of World Peace spoke about the foundation of national invincibility that was laid 46 years ago when Maharishi came to Canada and opened the gates of enlightenment for the whole nation.
The celebration was broadcast live globally via satellite on the Maharishi Channel, and connected by videoconference to the assembly gathered at the Fairmount Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia, and in locations across Canada. The celebration was hosted by Dr Harris Kaplan, Raja (Administrator) of Canada and India for the Global Country of World Peace, from MERU, Holland.
The highlight of the occasion was the address of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace. (See Global Good News article 'Commemorating Maharishi's first visit to Canada 46 years ago')
Dr Neil Paterson, General Secretary of the Parliament of World Peace, commented on Maharishi's beautiful, memory-filled talk. On behalf of all Canadians, he said that everyone will always remember 17 October 1961 as the day 'that Canada gained its spiritual liberation and the knowledge to be a truly independent, sovereign, invincible nation, because on that day, Maharishi opened the door for Canada to the immortal, invincible field of infinite bliss which triumphs over all suffering and over all bondage.'
Dr Clarence Cormier, a leader of the Global Country of World Peace, and former Minister of Education for the Province of New Brunswick and former Mayor of Dieppe, New Brunswick spoke of how he met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi as a result of his search to find a solution to the major problems facing Canada at that time in the field of health. Straightaway he saw the benefits of Maharishi's knowledge for his constituents and went on to become of a Teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Technique so the people could immediately experience relief from these problems.
Dr Gregg Wilson, with his wife, Dr Georgina Wilson, leaders of the Global Country of World Peace in Canada for many years, spoke of the brilliant 1972 Symposium on the Science of Creative Intelligence, at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, over which Maharishi presided. Eminent leaders from a broad spectrum of disciplines participated in the symposium, including media expert Dr Marshall McLuhan, and had lively discussions with Maharishi. Dr Gregg Wilson said, 'Maharishi brought their knowledge up to the ultimate value in the context of the Science of Creative Intelligence and enlightenment.'
Dr Wilson also reminded everyone of the successful '1% campaign' in 1978 in the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec—a campaign to increase the number of people practising Transcendental Meditation in these areas to 1% of the population in order to reduce crime.*
The event also featured rare historic photos of Maharishi in various Canadian cities from 1961 and the ensuing early days of his worldwide travels and courses to promote Transcendental Meditation. One delightful photo showed Maharishi giving an Introductory Lecture on the TM Technique to the staff of a Canadian hotel, turning around to draw on a blackboard behind him, a 'bubble diagram' illustrating how the mind transcends during this practice.
Commenting on many beautiful occasions when Maharishi was in Canada, Dr Gregg Wilson said, 'What stands out is the feeling of timelessness and unboundedness in Maharishi's presence, when time seemed to stand still in a dynamic silence.'
Dr Kaplan concluded that the secret of transforming the trends of time from negative to positive is the gathering together of groups of Yogic Flyers who experience themselves, their own self-referral consciousness. 'It is the experience of all of us rising together to enlightenment, with dynamism buttressed by our inner silence.'
All speakers felt that the benefits to the country of Canada, as a result of embracing Maharishi's knowledge and technologies of the Unified Field of Natural Law, have provided a real foundation for invincibility for the whole population.
*Extensive scientific research has shown that when one per cent of a population practises Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Technique, negative trends such as crime are reduced, while positive trends rise.
