This is the 56th day of Canada's national invincibility programme, and there continue to be indications of national consciousness rising to invincibility as evidenced by positive trends in the economy, and other areas of national life.
Bloomberg News (25 August 2006) - Canadian Stocks Head for Longest 2006 Win Streak as Oil Gains
The Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index is up 0.8 per cent since 18 August and is headed for its fifth straight weekly gain. That would be the longest winning streak since the two-month period ended 6 January.
'Things are aligned for the market to go higher,' said Greg Eckel, who manages $900 million at Morgan Meighen & Associates in Toronto. 'There's little downside for commodities in the next little while. The banks have made a good move. That's about three-quarters of the market advancing.'
CBC News (24 August 2006) - Ontario balances its books
Ontario's Finance Minister Greg Sorbara announced Thursday he has wiped out the province's deficit two years ahead of schedule.
Figures released show a modest surplus of $298 million....
