14 October 2005
On 14 October 2005 The Chronicle Herald reported:
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the Global Country of World Peace, named two islands in eastern Nova Scotia as the North American Islands of World Peace. The Global Country of World Peace is dedicated to creating permanent world peace through the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of world peace.
The inauguration ceremony took place on 14 October on the islands. 'It is a very special day,' said Bill Overall, Canadian national coordinator for the peace initiative for the Global Country of World Peace.
According to the article, the group decided to name one island off each of the world's seven continents a world peace island. The purpose of these islands is to create unity among the continents and set up centres of world peace.
These particular islands were specifically chosen because the Global Country wanted to set up facilities on islands furthest east off of Nova Scotia, thus getting the first rays of sun each day.
Peter Cameron, a local teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Programme, was quoted as saying, 'The long-term goal for having islands as the location for this institution ... is that it can have some kind of independent status from the rest of the land mass in the continent...like the United Nations.'
Mr Overall told reporter Gulamhusein that the group plans to build 'a university of world peace and a Peace Palace, which will be used for educational purposes'.
'We hope this can be the start of something very amazing for that area of Nova Scotia.' said Overall.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
