On 28 September 2026 Blue News reported: In 2025, the ozone hole over Antarctica was smaller than it has been at any time since the early 1990s. ''This is a success story in environmental protection,'' said Celeste Saulo, head of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). ''The ozone layer has been recovering since 2000, and we can expect it to fully recover within a few decades,'' said WMO Director Saulo on World Ozone Day on September 16. The ozone layer is important because it protects people and the Earth from the sun's dangerous UV rays.
