Whale sightings hit record high during citizen science migration count

On 29 June 2025 Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported: Hundreds of volunteers along the New South Wales coastline have counted thousands of whales during migration. ...ORRCA [Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans] spokesperson Pip Jacobs said the large number of sightings was likely due to the record number of volunteers who participated in the citizen science event.
