Vastu Log home in Australia
Maharishi Vedic Architecture Translate This Article
25 October 2017
Maharishi Vastu homes and buildings promote health, harmony, peace, and abundance. Using the ancient principles of Vedic architecture, as restored to their completeness by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, ensures that the buildings we live and work in support our well being and success.
A client in Australia is building a Maharishi Vastu* house of logs that were custom cut by a log home company in Estonia. After cutting the logs to the precise Vedic measurements, the factory pre-assembled the home in their factory to check for quality control, then dis-assembled and shipped it to Australia.
Logs are an ideal building material for a Maharishi Vastu home- natural, non-toxic, breathable and requiring very little metal in the structure. The logs should be kiln-dried, so that they are stable enough to yield the precision in dimension that is needed for Maharishi Vastu construction.
We thought you would enjoy hearing the client's account of the building process:
The log shipment arrived in Narooma, NSW after being held in customs for a few days, so we were behind schedule. I hired a local builder who was keen to see how log cabins are done. He joined the four builders from Estonia, and they did a five-day job in three days!
The builders all had large, strong shoulders from years of handling logs and monkey-like balance from walking up a log wall or beam 5m (16 feet) above the ground without a second thought!
I had done an online owner-builder course which allowed me to be on site and help some during the day. I did the things that did not require special experience—hammering in wooden pegs (very satisfying), keeping the building site tidy, and fetching tools from the hardware shop as needed. The builders were so engaged they did not think of food—so I brought in hot, fast, finger food which they wolfed down in 15 minutes and then went straight back to work!
The house grew quickly with the help of a crane and its very cooperative operators. Everyone was so happy and focused under pressure! After three long days of work, I shook hands with the builders, who drove straight to Sydney to catch their flight back to Estonia.
I was left alone to enjoy the quiet and the very strong feeling of silence in the new house even though it still had no roof.
It is very simple, ingenious process and a joy to be able to see and appreciate how it is all connected and constructed.
