Dr Norman Rosenthal has been touring the United States to promote his bestselling book, Transcendence. He recently spoke to a prestigious investment company in the Northeast region, about the scientifically verified efficacy of the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
The company Dr Rosenthal spoke to is one of the largest and most successful hedge funds in the world, which has a tradition of hiring only the best and brightest individuals.
Sam Katz, a teacher of Transcendental Meditation, commented about this company, 'They're always looking for programmes to improve the development of consciousness of their staff . . . their health, their well-being. And they have a strong philosophy of going very deeply into anything that they do.'
Dr Rosenthal spoke to over two hundred employees at the company as part of his tour of the United States.
'When Dr Rosenthal speaks,' Mr Katz said, 'it comes with a great deal of immediate credibility. This is an individual who has authored over two hundred scientific papers. When we speak about scientific research that has been ''peer reviewed'', this is a gentleman who is actually one of the peers that does the reviewing on many different scientific papers.'
Dr Rosenthal told the audience that he has found Transcendental Meditation very beneficial in his own life. When he went to look at the research already conducted on the technique, he was 'bowled over'. He said Transcendental Meditation was perhaps the greatest scientific secret that needs to get out.
Dr Rosenthal was so inspired about Transcendental Meditation that he decided to write a book. Having written a number of books previously,* this was a big decision, one that he didn't take lightly.
With humour, he recommended to everyone in the audience, 'Don't write a book; it's just a huge amount of work . . . and I vowed never to write another one—but when I saw what was going on here, I thought, I have to. I have a moral responsibility to get this knowledge [of Transcendental Meditation] out.'
* Including Winter Blues, about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which Dr Rosenthal was a pioneer in identifying and prescribing light therapy as a treatment.
