NEW YORK, May 3, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Award-winning actor and comedian Russell Brand is headlining Freedom Institute's 2017 Spring Gala to honor his longtime friend Bob Roth, CEO of the David Lynch Foundation (DLF).
Each year at its Gala, Freedom Institute, a nonprofit outpatient treatment and recovery center, hosts supporters and colleagues to celebrate the importance of prevention and treatment, and to honor a leader whose commitment to this field is unwavering with the Mona Mansell Award. Freedom Institute has chosen Bob Roth as its 2017 Mona Mansell Award recipient.
Russell Brand, an activist in the recovery field, is part of an 'abstinence-based recovery program' and has publicly praised meditation.globalgoodnews.com/'target=_'blank'>Transcendental Meditation (TM) for keeping him focused on staying off drugs and alcohol. Brand is a strong voice advocating for the treatment of addicts through rehabilitation, arguing that addiction is not a criminal matter, but one of mental health.
DLF's research on the effectiveness of the stress-reducing, evidence-based TM technique in at risk communities such as prisons, veterans suffering from PTSD, and students in inner city schools, has touched many individuals and families struggling with addiction. FI and DLF have been collaborating on clinical trials on the use of TM in recovery. The simple TM technique has proven effective as a coping mechanism for stress and anxiety and is an essential component of recovery for many individuals struggling with substance abuse or addiction. Freedom Institute now incorporates TM into individual treatment programs.
About Freedom Institute Founded in 1976, Freedom Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit outpatient prevention and treatment center dedicated to healing individuals and families affected by substance abuse and addiction. A leader in the field, FI is one of the only outpatient treatment facilities to combine Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) with a family systems approach.
About The David Lynch Foundation The David Lynch Foundation (DLF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 2005, with a mission to reduce the epidemic of trauma and toxic stress among at-risk populations through the implementation of the evidence-based Transcendental Meditation technique. DLF focuses on underserved middle and high school students, veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress, and women and children dealing with domestic violence and sexual assault.
