How to develop a 'Super Mind' through meditation, according to this renowned psychiatrist

Dr Norman Rosenthal, writing for the Lifestyle section of The Washington Post said, ''Even now, as I remember those first Super Mind experiences, a stillness comes over me, but along with the stillness, an energy, a focus, a sense of being able to tackle whatever might come my way.''

In his new book, ''SUPER MIND: How to Boost Performance and Live a Richer and Happier Life Through Transcendental Meditation'' Dr Rosenthal explores the benefits of Transcendental Meditation and how he noticed in over 600 personal interviews that the technique enhanced not only health, creativity and effectiveness, but a much higher level of joy in life.

Dr Rosenthal describes his own and others' experiences from TM, finding that consciousness began to grow—that the normal blissful, transcendence experienced during TM filtered into his daily life—a stillness and silence in the midst of activity.

To illustrates this, he said, ''My friend Ray Dalio, a decades-long TM practitioner and founder of the hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, describes such feelings well. As Ray puts it, TM has helped him feel like a ninja in the midst of battle -- who experiences things as coming at him in slow motion so that they are easier to tackle one by one.''

The book skillfully weaves scientific findings about TM with individuals expressing their experiences of increased happiness and self-fulfilment. Some are celebrities who offer their personal story about learning TM in order to uphold the importance of ''a technique that is not a belief or faith but a simple tool . . .'' as Hugh Jackman says about TM, and concludes that the technique, ''in my experience, can improve your life in ways you never thought possible.''
