Germany: Maharishi Ayur-Veda research contributes to increasing popularity, acceptance of Ayurvedic health care

In addition to featuring expert presentations in the field of Maharishi Ayur-Veda* health care, the recent 30-Year Jubilee Congress of the German Ayurveda Association served as a platform to inform leaders of society that the world's oldest, most comprehensive system of natural medicine offers the solution to the current crisis in health care, as well as providing both preventive and treatment programmes for chronic diseases. The German Ayurveda Association is the oldest medical association outside of India for Ayurvedic practitioners.
Through the European Ayurveda Medical Association (EURAMA), and on behalf of the German Ayurveda Association, a letter was sent to German legislators, health insurers, and the press.
Lothar Pirc, secretary general of EURAMA and managing director of the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre in Bad Ems, Germany, proposed this initiative at the Congress. The letter included details of research on Maharishi Ayur-Veda, as well as studies showing cost-saving data from health insurance companies in North America and Europe, and potential savings outcomes of implementing the programmes in Germany.
Mr Pirc commented recently that a significant percentage of the government recipients read the letter, which was sent via email, and there were many positive responses.
Ayurveda has become so popular in Germany, he said—largely because of the activities of Maharishi Ayur-Veda—that three universities in Germany currently have an Ayurveda department, including one in Berlin, where cutting edge research on several diseases using Ayurveda is ongoing. Maharishi Ayur-Veda representatives were invited to form, together with other Ayurvedic schools in Germany that are pursuing serious medical research, a foundation to conduct scientific research in Ayurveda.
Mr Pirc feels Maharishi Ayur-Veda will continue to play a significant role in the great growth of Ayurveda in Germany. The consensus among several leading experts in Maharishi Ayur-Veda in Europe is that people and institutions are increasingly interested in the approaches and technologies of Maharishi Ayur-Veda, now that there is a continually increasing body of research studies to verify their effectiveness.
* Ayurveda is the world's oldest, most comprehensive system of natural medicine, which originated in the Vedic civilization of ancient India and is now officially recognized by the World Health Organization. Maharishi Ayur-Veda is the modern restoration by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi of the complete and authentic practice of Ayurveda as recorded in the Vedic texts.
