Medical association in New Zealand to work with doctors prescribing Transcendental Meditation

A Maharishi Medical Association is being established in New Zealand to work with doctors who want to prescribe Transcendental Meditation to patients with cardiovascular disease.
The association will interface with doctors and provide another avenue for learning the stress-reducing technique, which has been found to reduce atherosclerosis and other aspects of cardiovascular disease. Doctors will prescribe Transcendental Meditation, and then the association will organize for those patients to learn.
Martin Davy, director of the Transcendental Meditation programme in New Zealand, explained that the organization would be established in time for the recent tour of New Zealand by Robert Schneider, MD, FACC.
Dr Schneider is one of the world's leading authorities on scientifically validated natural treatments for heart disease and stroke. The results of his groundbreaking research often focus on the effectiveness of Transcendental Meditation, and have been featured in The New York Times, ABC television's 20/20, the Wall Street Journal, and CNN Headline News.
He has been a consultant to numerous government agencies in the United States, including the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Presidential Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and the US Congress Prevention Coalition.
Dr Schneider's tour of New Zealand included lecturing at medical universities around the country. Even before his arrival in the country his scheduled presentations to health professionals had received support from the medical community, said Mr Davy, who expected that doctors would be inspired by these lectures about the proven efficacy of Transcendental Meditation in dramatically reducing heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke.
The organization was established in anticipation of many doctors beginning to recommend Transcendental Meditation and their patients learning the meditation technique, said Mr Davy. A new website was also ready to be launched.
